Module 10: Home & Family First Aid

odule 10 is all about your family’s well-being. We differentiate between first aid and trauma, and this is about non-life-threatening medical issues. While less extreme, family medicine is much more common and more likely to happen. The mindset and approach is unique between the two and we’ll walk through the best approach to home and family medicine in this module. A key often overlooked part of preparedness is being physically fit and in good health.

What You’ll Learn:

  • The difference between first aid and trauma: Understanding the difference between first aid and trauma, and more importantly prioritizing, preparing, and treating appropriately is critical in emergency situations.

  • How to properly help people who are choking: Adults, children, infants, pregnant women, and yourself all need a different method of handling choking. We cover the proper method for each of these.

  • Using an AED. We demonstrate an automated external defibrillator (AED) that you commonly find in public places.

  • Building a Home Med Kit: We include a checklist and background information on how to build a med kit for your home.

  • Common Protocols for Body Systems. Understanding how our body systems function and what to look for in function failure.
